4Good snowshoes, poor instructionsMar 04, 2010
I bought two pairs of these showshoes, the men's version for myself and the women's version for my wife. It took me over an hour to get our boots strapped in properly the first time. The instructions that come with the snowshoes are titled "Composite & Aluminum Series," and they appear to be for some other, probably more expensive, showshoes. They consist almost entirely of drawings, which in no way resemble the equipment we have, with minimal text. I found myself trying to take the showshoes apart with a Phillips screwdriver to try to make the adjustments necessary to make my boots fit in the snowshoes. (This was not necessary, as it turned out. There are two places on each snowshoe where adjustments can be made, the heel strap and a sliding plate under the boot. Neither requires special equipment, but both require strong fingers, and I found a flat screwdriver helpful when releasing the sliding plate.)
It seems that TSL Outdoor, the company that makes this equipment, is expressing indifference, if not contempt, for their customers by shipping snowshoes with directions like these. How difficult or expensive would it be for the company to write clear directions that actually pertain to the snowshoes they are shipping? Incidentally, when the adjustments were complete, I found it difficult to pull the heel strap up over the back of the boot, and to pull it back down again, so I designed a simple tool using a large metal hook that I found in the garage, to facilitate this. I suggest that the company should include such a tool with its equipment.
The snowshoes themselves seemed great, very light, comfortable, well-designed and well-manufactured. We climbed up and down a slope of powder, where the snow was 2-4 feet deep judging by the penetration of our poles, and we only sank down about 4-6 inches. (I weigh about 175 #, and my wife weighs about 110#.) We had good traction going uphill and downhill, thanks to the sharp cleats strategically placed on the soles of the snowshoes. The design allows for free up-and-down movement of the heel, and I didn't experience any leg pain after a couple of hours of vigorous use.

5great all round affordable snowshoeJan 26, 2010
i got these for my son so he would snowshoe with me, and they worked great. My husband like them better then his Tubb's. Bindings work well, good flotation and grip. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to try snowshoeing and wants value for his/her money.
