Happy Now!!!!!!!Jul 22, 2010 Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver)
This bike rack is as good as it gets. I have struggled with a Thule 956/958 Parkway bike rack for two years and it ruined the finish on our bikes by allowing them to slide together and rub on each other. The Swagman was very easy to assemble and I can't say enough good about it. If your looking for a bike rack, DO NOT get one that has your bikes hanging from a bar. The Swagman supports your bikes from the wheels and holds them solidly, not allowing them to swing or sway. As you can tell, I couldn't be happier!!!!
PS: Dealing through Amazon.com is the only way to go!!!!
Great valueJul 15, 2010 Very well made for the price, simple to use and holds the bikes well. I'm sure the longevity will be shorter than higher priced racks, but it can't be beat for moderate use.
My opinionJul 12, 2010 I bought this item for the ease of loading it. However, I am not at all happy with ease with which it could be stolen (cargo and all). It has no built in security features. This needs to be addressed for future models.
Definite Upgrade - Very PleasedJul 08, 2010 I am very pleased thus far with my purchase. I'm relatively new into biking and initially bought 2 Bell bike racks from Wal-Mart. I was never really happy with them; they're very cheap and just made me insecure when carrying my bikes. I decided to upgrade and am very glad I did.
I'm not sure if Amazon is stocking a different part number than they're advertising, but mine clearly works with both 2" and 1 1/4" receivers. In order to use the 1 1/4" size, just remove the adapter with an allen wrench. The padded bars that do come in contact with the bike are a bit sticky, so I place a cloth between the bike and bar, as recommended by many other reviewers. Additionally, the bars are also different sizes. That way you can decide which bar is going to fit best for each bike you're carrying. I tried out both and it seems both work just fine for my bikes (Trek 4300 mountain bike and Trek 2.3 road bike). The ratcheting part that secures the bike seems very stiff and secure. I have had a bit of a difficult time removing my bikes on occasion. I may be tightening them too much, but to counter this, I put downward pressure on the frame of the bike which releases some of the retaining tension. No biggie, just watch your fingers (pinched one first time using the rack - my fault for not being aware).
The installation took me about 10 minutes and adjustments took about 5 minutes. I have very, very limited wiggle when I use the rack and now feel totally comfortable when carrying my expensive bikes. Best of all, I got this rack on Gold Box special for $109. What a deal!
Good rackJul 06, 2010 Have been using this rack for 3+ months now, works great in every way, no issues or complaints.
