The Allen 555RR is 5 star - so far. I was like a kid at Christmas when I opened the box, assembled it, and slid it into my new 2" square trailer hitch. It was easy to assemble and feels like a solid piece of machinery that I have good expectations of. It's connected to trailer hitch receiver with the standard "no wobble" bolt. I've used it once and there was really no wobble. All bikes will have to be padded in some fashion to prevent scraping each other as they are really snug. This includes the bike that is loaded nearest to vehicle, which on my Honda Odyssey, has its pedal slightly touching the back door. All doable. I elected not to by Allen's $44 locking pin but one at half the price from [...] where I bought my Hidden Hitch from (also VERY easy to install on Odyssey - using universal joint to get around muffler). I will have to drill out a larger hole thru the Allen bike rack (where the no wobble bolt goes) to accommodate the larger diameter locking bolt, so hopefully all goes well there. I've read that some have a clearance issue - scraping the ground. I've checked with one bike - no problem. Maybe a problem is minivan is totally loaded down w/ camping gear & five bikes; but again, doable.

Why did I select this rack when I was ready to buy the Yakima Double Down - 5 rack system? That rack seems to have consistent ranking of 80% (4 of 5 stars) from a fewer number of reviewers than this Allen rack, which had about 4.5 stars (90% approval rating) from more than double reviewers. I personally, as an engineer, wanted the two arm system bike rack for greater stability compared w/ some single arm racks. The quick release feather seems worth the extra $20.

5Best 5 bike rack.Feb 10, 2010
This has to be one of the best values on Amazon. It is the best built 5 bike (yes, I said 5 bike) carrier I have ever seen and the price is far less then most I have researched. It folds away and out from the vehicle. You can really get 5 bikes on this thing. I have recommended it to many of my bike family friends. You will not regret this purchase.

5Best Rack I have seenFeb 07, 2010
This is the best rack I have ever seen for more than 4 bikes. Very easy to use. Very Very durable and strong. This is not a cheap weak discount store rack. It has a quick release so you can still get to the back of your vehicle. You just might need help with the weight. All 5 of our bikes are different sizes and shapes. This can make it tricky putting them all together. Once you have a system they all fit fine. The closer to the same size and shape the easier it would be. I was concerned with bikes ranging from a heavy mountain bike to a small bike with training wheels that we would not get them on...or even worse it would be too weak. I was pleasantly surprised.

4Works good but hard to fit 5 bike onSep 13, 2009
This is a good bike rack and we use it often. When it is just 2 of us biking the rack works great, easy to get the bikes on and off, easy to secure the bikes, but when trying to fit 5 bikes on the rack it is difficult to make them all fit. Either the petals are hitting or the handlebars are hitting, we only managed to get 4 bikes on the rack and hauled the other one on top of our truck. Thankfully we usually go with 4 or 2 bikes when we go and it works great for that.

52001 GMC Yukon useJul 13, 2009
Great item for the price. Easy to install and remove. Some deft balancing acts are needed to install smaller bikes but can be done easily. It's been on two trips of over 300 miles apiece. I feared the straps would loosen on their own but they held fast. There's a bit of slack on the lower hing with a full load -- where the assembly bobs on bumps and such. It's best to put a smaller bike closest to the vehicle to allow for suspension flex. Would recommend.
